What Should You Know About Article Marketing Vs PPC Marketing

by Bob on January 8, 2010

Are you part of a society in a rush? Do you prefer ‘fast food’ over shopping and cooking at home? There is always a difference in value between anything that endures or is long lasting versus something transient. This difference in value may be part of the equation when you consider Article Marketing vs PPC Marketing.

PPC or Pay Per Click is right now and gives immediate results. It also requires a budget. Article marketing takes time to develop and results will certainly not be instant.

You may need a competitive budget for PPC to purchase keywords and key phrases. You will need to apply your management skills to identify your best buys. It will take some analysis to determine which words or phrases produce the best return on the funds you invest.

On the other hand article marketing is a perfect match for people on a low or no budget scheme. There is data to support the idea that people attracted to articles may be a better customer. They may be a reader who is inclined to come back to you because your information is helpful, entertaining, or instructional.

When you purchase listings from a popular PPC company you will have a listing appear because you paid for it. With article marketing there is a sense that you earned your readership. A popular observation is that you will probably benefit from a marriage between both methods.

You may want to consider starting with some ppc marketing to get a grasp on effective keywords. You may be able to determine which phrases are most beneficial to you. The funds spent here may save you from time consuming mistakes in article marketing with keyword information that has less value.

There is a ‘time is money’ component to your decision making process. You may go to a restaurant and order a meal for the entire family. When it is done you are presented with a bill. When you examine the bill you might think to yourself how many meals you might prepare for the family if you had spent the same amount of money on grocery store items.

The money will go farther at the store and you can prepare several meals designed just for your family’s taste. Article marketing is like that because you craft each one for your reader’s particular appetite. You serve up one relevant article after another ensuring they want a seat at your table on a regular basis.

With PPC you may need to commit to a constant budget of buying a position over and over again. If you are generating good monthly income this can be a worthwhile and effective tool.

Combining both approaches may be the ultimate return on both your time and your budget. Consider the available shortcuts and tools available when you are determining the route that is best for you.

Increased readership, vital back links, and wide recognition may be the welcome results of your articles. Instant feedback and monetary gain may be the result of judicious ppc strategies.

No mater which strategy that you use, it still comes down to marketing. If you do not know how to market and attract people to you using attraction marketing than you need to learn how. • Hey Bob,

Great job talking about the benefits of each marketing strategy. When it comes down to it, you need to decide which is more valuable to you...Your time or you money. For me it is my time.

Bob I wish I could get into PPC, however my budget won't allow for that at this time. But I agree a two pronged approach would be the way to go.
  • Awesome Bob,

"Time verses money" is a popular question marketers are asking themselves all the time. I've done the fast food approach, but am more comfortable preparing my articles and getting customers through readership.

    Thanks,
    ~Bert
  • Bob,

Great article. I have not ventured into the ppc arena yet. I know article and blog marketing take a little more time but I do enjoy creating content and distribution.

    Hey Bob,
Great article on article marketing and PPC marketing. Excellent comparison. Many people don't understand why one strategy is better than another. You explain this this very well for these two strategies.

Thanks for the excellent insight. I keep coming back because you truly understand what goes on in the marketing world.

    To Your Continued Success,
    BIll
  • Hey Bob, I really appreciate your insights in this matter. I have been wanting to do some PPC but have not been willing to spend the extra money to learn the ropes. I have been using article marketing and find that very enjoyable. Like you said it is not a fast return, however knowing that those articles are out there for all to see for a long period of time is where I see the great value.
    Thanks again,
    Kathy Sammons
  • Bob,

There are always advantages and disadvantages in everything we do. Thank you for providing necessary information to made a sound decision on which marketing technique that best suite our needs.

Great article! Keep up the good work.

  • I've gone through the same order you did here in starting with PPC first and moving into blog/article marketing. I think it's a great route to go so long as you learn from both. I always tell my team when it comes to deciding which strategy to use, do you want to spend more money or more time? If it's more money, go with PPC. If it's more time, go with blog/content marketing.

Personally, I get more satisfaction from blog/article marketing.

  • Bob, great article. I've been reading your articles lately, and you do such a great job in explaining in detail and bringing value to the online marketplace. Personally, I like article marketing and recently have started implementing it.

  • Hi Bob,

I've run some large PPC campaigns for some big companies here in Florida over the past few years. They had large monthly budgets so I was really able to do thorough testing.

Personally, I wouldn't invest more than 25% of a monthly marketing budget into PPC. Even that may be high. It will certainly get some traffic to a site, but in a sluggish market, that doesn't necessarily translate into sales.

Article marketing via a Blog (which is especially easy to set up in a FAQ format) is one of the quickest methods out there for "fast results." This model (FAQ) is especially nice for those who hate writing articles.

If you enjoy writing, the blogging, writing articles, creating eBooks - it's a wonderland of excitement being online these days. If you're not the kind of person who enjoys creating content, though, there are other options.

I starting writing, publishing and marketing ebooks back in 1998. It's been my personal experience over the last 12 years of making money online that - if you enjoy writing, you'll have a distinct advantage over much of the competition in your particular niche. And if you're comfortable "selling in print" (a bare-bones definition of marketing), watch out! The sky's the limit!

  • Thanks Bob,
I write a great deal. It has always been a passion of mine. I also find that the more I write, the more clearly the thoughts and ideas flow to me during conversation. Knowing that my article marketing is about building relationships, the added benefit of improving my direct communications with people helps as well. I also respect the fact that certain people will respond to an add verses an article. We try to balance both because we don't want to miss anyone.
  • Mr. Howard, great article!
We have been submitting articles in various niche markets for years. As you stated, the results were not imediate. But since we have benefited unmeasurably.
You should require all your new students to read this.
