PPC – Does Google Hate MLM and Direct Sales? Now What?

by Bob on December 9, 2009

If you have been following the changes that Google is making in the last few months you will begin to see a pattern. The most significant change I have seen that has opened many eyes to what is going on is the recent shutdown of PPC Legend, Perry Marshall. He had ALL of his ads disapproved or graded so low that they would never show. You have to realize that Perry spends around $1 million dollars a year with Google. Why would they do that? Well that is the real question.

Google does around 20 Billion dollars a year in revenue a year. So to them a $1 million dollar client is just not that much revenue. But there again even if this does not financially hurt them to a point they could not survive it, why do it?

Well time and time again Google has made the statement when contacted by individuals after they got their ads shutdown that MLM, direct sales and affiliate sales are not legitimate business. Again this is not an isolated case. It has happened time and time again. Take a look at Perry Marshall’s article Illegitimate Businesses.  You will see that this is not a one time thing. I have seen this also happen to many MLM marketers that use the same marketing system I use. Some have given up on Google and some are getting back in there and working with Googles new stance. Which is what most PPC advocates will do. In fact Perry has said that in the long run he believes it is good what Google is doing and has no issue making the adjustments needed to continue with Google

There have been many other people that have been impacted by Google’s new practices as was discussed by Jim Yaghi in his article on Does Google Hate Affiliate Advertisers.  It looks like those of us in MLM will have to find another way to reach our prospects because Google is no longer going to let us play in their play ground.

I made a decision a few months back that I was no longer going to rely on Google strictly for the cost. Although I had gotten my cost per lead down to under $5, I wanted to have a lot of leads and the cost was just not justifiable in the long run as I saw it. With that I decided to look for other ways besides Twitter which I was already doing. I began a multi-pronged approach where I was writing articles, started my blog and began marketing on Facebook. All of these techniques combined along with improvements in the other techniques I was already doing allowed me to grow to 30-50 leads a day. I have had some days where I have gotten 80+ leads. I cannot say that all these leads are free because I use some safe lists that are paid subscriptions. However they are nearly free. The cost per lead for my safe lists is so far under a $1 I it is crazy. I think by the end of my 1 year subscription I am going to see the cost per lead to be about 30 cents.

All this to say that if you are relying on PPC for your leads, you will need to change your mindset because that is only because they have not yet caught up to you but they will.  You need some lead training that will bring you targeted leads like PPC. This kind of MLM Training is what all MLMers will require for success without using PPC.  You need to come up with some other strategies. I am glad I use the best marketing system on the planet that I was able to learn other techniques.
